Hot 97's Summer Jam 2013

I've never really been big on the Summer Jam scene nor have I ever posted that much about the annual concert thrown by NYC radio station Hot 97 and this year was no different. I will say however the Nicki Minaj fall out from last year and her reconciliation with the station this year have kept me in the know as far as when the event kicks off but other than that nothing.

This weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the famed event Miss Minaj along with hip hop's top acts made appearances this past Sunday which seemed to go on without a hitch. While I haven't posted any of the many videos here I will post a few that have been getting a little buzz for the viewing pleasure of liked minded individuals such as myself.

And speaking of like minded individuals, blogger and hip hop connoisseur Karen Civil  had a a write up posted to her Living Civil site by one of her contributors which was actually in my mind a one of kind recap featuring the not so great moments of this year's Summer Jam concerts and why Hot 97 has got to do better.

Check out 20 of  Eskee's compliments that I could not agree with more when it comes to hip hop acts coming to a stage near or afar from you as well as a few Summer Jam highlights.

1. The sound levels for EVERY set was off and needed to be fixed DURING the artist performance.
2. For a live performance, the artist should actually PERFORM their song, don’t just play the CDQ record as you rap over it like your alone in your car. Too many rappers did that, and it’s starting to get on my nerves.
3. The younger New York fans have little knowledge of their own Hip-Hop legends, Wu-Tang got little love during their set.
4. I don’t care how much money Diddy dropped, I don’t care if his album did just hit stores, I don’t care if he did (in his words) in fact drop the greatest hip-hop album in the past decade, French Montana CAN NOT headline you music showcase.
5. Since you decided to bite the bullet and make French Montana your headliner you CAN NOT cut his act three songs into his set because the powers that be changed their mind.
6. This one has to be bold in bold *clears throat* Papoose CAN NOT AND SHOULD NOT EVER have the second to last performance of the night coming after Wale, Kendrick Lamar, Chris Brown,Lil Kim, Fabolous, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, J. Cole, Miguel & Mariah Carey.
7. Papoose shouldn’t even be allowed to perform on the “biggest stage in Hip-Hop” period.
8. Nicki Minaj shows up to perform at Summer Jam after that whole debacle that happened last year, it’s a big moment. So for that big moment when she came out to do her verse to “I Luv Dem Strippers” with 2 Chainz, her mic is off for 3/4 of stage time.
9. Kendrick you are one of the best and easily the brightest star in the genre, you have to make your performance EPIC. Jay-Z and or Drake should have been brought out during your set.
10. Hov’ and Bey’….how you gonna come to Summer Jam just to sit in the back and “watch” the show. Y’all couldn’t come out and do a quick little 3 song set?
11. Summer Jam producers, how do you  NOT get valuable camera shots of Hov’ and Bey’ when they come to YOUR showcase, I’m pretty sure you could have got a camera back there.
12. MMG are the party starters, Ross is the leader, how does Ross not get his own set?
13. Summer Jam is the landing strip for Hip-Hop beefs, how does someone not get put on that Summer Jam Screen?
14. The Producers of the show REALLY couldn’t get Drake to show up? Really?
15. The Producers of the show REALLY couldn’t get Future to show up? Really?
16. Inviting bloggers backstage and allowing them to leak out surprises and appearances ALL NIGHT  during the show that ending up being more false than true…probably not a good idea organizers.
17. If Wu-Tang had the longest set, why didn’t you just let them close?
18. Miguel should have been giving another chance to jump over a crowd a people to make up for the Billboard Awards.
19. J.Cole with an album coming out and on a promotional tour, you don’t give him a set? hmmmmm….
20. The crowd was absolute trash, organizers should have hired of bunch of filler placements to sit in the front row and make noise if need be.
First, let me say that I beyond surprised that this honesty was posted to Karen's site beacuse she is hella cool with the majority of the people discussed although she in fact didn't write this review.
Anywho, is Eskee on to something here? Do you agree? I do mostly except for the fact that maybe Jay and Bey just wanted to enjoy the show and I wholeheartedly would lovvvvvvvvvvve to know how just shy of selling 60k copies French Montana closed the show.
Now these aren't my favs acts of the Summer Jam evening because I wasn't there nor do I wish to see them all I just think they're seeable more than anything.

What I need to know is whether Nicki and Lil Kim saw one another that night? The two have been in a heated battle via social networks and tracks since Nicki's heightened fame...
