Anna Wintour has has been the Editor in Chief of American Vogue magazine since July 1988.
In 2003, Wintour's former assistant, Lauren Weisberger, wrote the novel The Devil Wears Prada. The book was made into a 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Weisberger has denied the based Miranda Priestly on Wintour, despite the similarities of the character.
The September Issue is a documentary by R.J. Cutler which focuses on the behind the scenes putting together of the September 2007 issue of Vogue, and explores the power that Anna Wintour holds over the whole fashion industry.
