NY Times Critic Slams Shonda Rhimes

Image
Before we get into this read please let the record show that Shonda Rhimes is NOT the creator of ABC's new show How To Get Away With Murder starring Viola Davis . Now, NY Times critic Alessandra Stanley has once again stuck her foot in her mouth. The sketchy critic is the author of an article criticizing executive producer  Rhimes  for  the "angry black women" she creates on screen  coupled with a few stereotypical insults towards Ms. Davis and black women in general. This chick is nuts, all over the place and most of all in need of some attention in which she did get from Shonda via Twitter. Confused why @nytimes critic doesn't know identity of CREATOR of show she's reviewing. @petenowa did u know u were "an angry black woman"? — shonda rhimes (@shondarhimes) September 19, 2014 There's more where this tweet came from but let's get into this horrible display of work... On Thursday, Ms. Rhimes will introduce “How to Get ...

SAVE THE DATE: 'Scandal' Returns In September

Image
Shonda Rhimes sat down with TV Guide to dish some semi deets on everyone's favorite guilty pleasure Scandal . As most of us know Harrison ( Columbus Short ) will not be returning to the show. In this recent interview Rhimes divulges a little more info about what we the viewers can expect to see in Season 4 when the show returns September 24 to ABC. Is there a time jump going into Season 4? Shonda Rhimes:   When we leave, she's on a plane headed to God knows where. When we come back into the season, we find ourselves is a surprising place both time-wise and location-wise.   Papa Pope all but tricked her into getting on the plane. How will she feel once she finds out she was duped and played right into her father's hands? Rhimes:   Do you think that she finds out? I hope that she finds out, but perhaps she does not.   Will we see more of Maya and Papa Pope this season even though Maya is locked away? Rhimes:   Definitely more Papa Pope. How can y...

Shonda Rhimes Delivers Commencement Speech At Dartmouth + Addresses Critics Regarding Speech Content

Image
Writer and producer Shonda Rhimes  delivered  the commencement speech at her alma mater Dartmouth this past Sunday (June 8). "I’m a writer. I’m a TV writer. I like to write stuff for other people to say. I actually contemplated bringing Ellen Pompeo or Kerry Washington here to say my speech for me…but my lawyer pointed out that when you drag someone across state lines against their will, the FBI comes looking for you so…" "My dreams did not come true. But I worked really hard. And I ended up building an empire out of my imagination. So my dreams? Can suck it." -   Full Text    Check out Shonda's speech. There has been quite a bit of critics expressing concern about her content. I will let y'all check out the speech before I say where the issue lies for some. I guess I understand what she's saying and think the majority of the backlash is/was groupthink . Y'all tell me what you think. Source

BET To Air 'Scandal' Seasons 1 & 2 In The Fall

Image
Viacom has acquired the rights to air episodes of ABC's Scandal from seasons 1 and 2 starting in the Fall on BET and will also air season 3 episodes after they've aired on ABC according to Hollywood Reporter . Under the pact, BET will begin airing seasons one and two of the  Kerry Washington  political-fixer drama this summer. Additionally, original episodes from the upcoming third season of the  Shonda Rhimes  series will air no sooner than eight days after original first-run episodes are broadcast on ABC. The deal for off-network repeats extends to additional seasons of the drama if it should continue its run (likely).   The sale comes as studios continue to enter the syndication market early ( Scandal  has produced a total of 29 episodes in its two seasons) in a bid to generate instant revenue rather than waiting for the typical 100-episode mark to explore off-network deals. This is a good look for BET, but I'd like some new music broadcasts i...
