Yesterday marked 14 years since the tragic passing of Aaliyah . Though I've never met her, I believe every beautiful word that I hear about her from those who have. Adding to the list of many that adore her still to this day is Janet Jackson . Janet publicly released a short heartfelt letter to Aaliyah via social media . Aaliyah was a big fan of Janet's and once said she mentions her in every interview with the hopes of one day meeting her.

Although it has been over a week since George Zimmerman 's acquittal of the murder of Trayvon Martin   that hasn't stopped millions of people including celebrities from discussing the issue at hand. Scandal star Columbus Short has penned a heartfelt letter in the wake of the verdict discussing the verdict and race related issues. As I have sat and listened to debate after debate, in depth analysis and tempered opinions on "The Verdict" I couldn't help but feel helpless, frustrated, hurt and yes, angry. As I plummet into the labyrinth of my mind in search of answers, solutions, or a way I could help subdue the burning desire for things to change, my only recourse was to start writing. Presume we step back and take pause for a moment. Pause to take a cultural and personal inventory on where we have come as a people. MLH On Racism The concept of reverse racism is flawed, if not absolutely ridiculous. Most, if not all of the negative responses from people of color toward white people, are reactions to the hatred, violence, cruelty and brutality that they were shown by white people for centuries. Much of the foundation of the modern world was built on the forced free labor of black peoples. The African Slave Trade, the institution of slavery, colonialism, its derivative systems, and the multiple holocausts throughout history, where whites used race as the defining reason to justify their oppression, conquest, and brutal treatment of non-white peoples, are how race became such a factor to begin with.

I haven't reported on Lauryn Hill's recent legal troubles at all  ( once sorta ) because I  honestly felt bad for her and didn't feel it was something to post about at the time. You see, I pick and choose what I write about like things that I am impressed with or have a ridiculous opinion on good or bad but I couldn't get that out of Lauryn's situation. Anywho, Ms. Lauryn Hill is tired of people talking about her business while not knowing the real deal and took to her Tumblr to clear things up. It has been reported that I signed a new record deal, and that I did this to pay taxes.
