Jay Z Opens Barclays Center
Jay Z ushered in the grand opening of Brooklyn’s first
stadium the Barclays Center on Friday night to a sold out crowd of 18,000. The
stadium in the heart of Brooklyn is the hometown of Jay and is the new home to
the Brooklyn Nets who Jay is part owner of.
Friday’s performance is one of eight that Jay is headling
through October 6 in his new “house”.
Opening show with video footage of
Brooklyn greats like Mike Tyson were shown to the tunes of “We Live In Brooklyn
Baby” then Jay took the stage performing “Where I’m From” and “Brooklyn Go Hard”.
Jay told the crowd “I’ve performed in a
lot places but nothing feels like tonight”. During the show Jay also took the
time out to honor his late friend and fellow Brooklyn native Notorious B.I.G
while his song "Juicy" played telling the crowd “sing loud so he can hear you in
heaven” as well as offering a moment of silence. Then surprisingly Brooklynite rap
legend Big Daddy Kane took the stage to perform 3 of his hits with Jay singing
his praises telling the crowd “Big Daddy Kane was before me” and “we gotta
understand our history”.
Notable attendees included: Memphis Bleek, Rihanna, J. Cole, Magic Johnson, Dave Chapelle, Pharrell Williams, Star Jones, The Dream, Angie Martinez, ultra Jay Z fan Adrienne Bailon
The show was described by many to be very emotional and very grand in true Jay Z fashion. Beyonce was spotted enjoying herself so much at one time even
shinning a flash light on the crowd during her husband’s performance of “Dirt
Off Your Shoulder”.
Not to bad for a guy from Marcy projects...
Last night was Jay's second performance at the venue in which he brought out his good friend and rapper Memphis Bleek to perform with him.
